Where should we stay at in Lake Tahoe?

Married on Saturday en route to Lake Tahoe on Sunday. The wife and I are in our mid years 20 and is looking for a scenic and relaxing honeymoon. We are looking for a place with a beautiful mountain / forest / lake view and would like to do some fishing, but not necessarily in any of that charter. Hiking, canoeing and cycling would be right up our alley with a lake to play well. We'll be there in the middle October, what part of the lake would be fair to us? Cabin or condominium preference.
