Entertainment in Nottingham

Nottingham has a delightful array of fascinating tourist attractions, meeting everyone from the history buff to Robin Hood fan, but the city has much to offer beyond half-day excursions outside of outsiders. For those living in the city proper, or its conurbation, and for those visiting on day trips and holidays, not all types of music, theater, restaurants, shops, sports and nightlife. Entertainment is abundant and rich in the modern city of Nottingham.

For classical music, there are several groups working to choose from, including the Symphony Orchestra of Nottingham, Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra, the Harmonic Society, the Bach Choir, Wind Symphony Orchestra, and the Early Music group Musica Donum Dei. The government also sponsors an annual series of orchestral concerts known as the classics of Nottingham, and Nottingham Music Society hosts music chamber performances at the Castle Gate Center Congregation.

The city is home to several other exciting music venues, including the Royal Concert Hall and the Nottingham Arena, which feature a wide variety of modern artists. More intimate shows are played at places like Club Junktion 7, The Old Angel, the award-winning Rock City and its sister sites, and many more. Nottingham has a lively bar and club scene, sustained by the youth of the University of Nottingham and University of Nottingham Trent. The local music scene has produced bands Swing Out Sister, Ten Years After, Paper Lace, Tindersticks, Stereo MCs, Pitchshifter and consumed.

The benefit more demanding may attend plays in the theater of Nottingham, the Royal Theater and the Theater of Arts in Nottingham. Smaller local theaters including Albert Hall Nottingham, Bonington Theater, the Clarendon Community Theater, Courtyard Theater and Arts Center on the lake. Each year, Newstead Abbey hosts summer theater, with Shakespeare and other offerings, while in the winter season are presented nostalgic Christmas pageants.

Eating Out in Nottingham twenty years ago was a pretty business depressing, since the options were rather narrow and smooth. These days there are many good restaurants, some winners of national awards, including Hart, Jesse, Traders, Petit Paris Pretty Orchid Punchinello, and the Mediterranean. There are a variety of local and ethnic cuisine to choose from the many restaurants in town, cafes, delivery locations, and takeaways. India, Middle East, Spanish, Italian, Egyptian, Caribbean, Mexico, Russian, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and even of America is available.

Sport is a fun first in Nottingham, with three key locations within the line of sight between each other. The local football teams are Nottingham Forest and Notts County (the oldest football team in the league in the world). The Trent Bridge Cricket Ground is the home of the champions Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club. Each year in autumn the acclaimed "Robin Hood Marathon" and a handful of shorter races are held in the center of the city. The National Center ice rink is where international skating stars train and compete in sports, and the Nottingham Panthers play hockey ice. The city also has facilities for the professional level of rugby, tennis, rowing, sailing and canoeing.

Victoria and Broadmarsh Center Shopping Center (with their exposures below the cave) are the two major commercial entertainment venues, housing retailers such as Jessops / John Lewis, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and House of Fraser. Sales smaller sections can be found in the Exchange Arcade and the Flying Horse Walk. Designer clothes shops have a home in Bridlesmith Gate which is where the designer Paul Smith got his start, and the home of the School of Fashion in Nottingham, which he founded. Hockley Village caters to an edgier audience.

Some central entertainment areas for nightlife in the city include:
Lace Market, a historic area full of factories and the 18th century elegant stores, now filled with apartments, shops, restaurants and galleries in the museum of Justice under the old county jail
Hockley Village, near the lace market has shops, galleries, bars and pubs, restaurants, cafes, and the world's smallest cinema with just 21 seats.
The Waterfront / Castle area features The waterfront bar, with outside balconies, the house of the canal with a canal and a bridge running through the center, a comedy club, a karaoke bar, and more bars and restaurants
The Corner House has bars, restaurants, a cinema and a gym, inside the old building Evening Post front of the Royal Concert Hall.
Old Market Square offers more bars, clubs, and pool halls, including the gothic club Pit and the Pendulum.

In addition to the many years Attractions, Nottingham also home to the historic Goose Fair for four or five days every October, the Forest Recreation ground. This gigantic attraction started as fair over seven hundred years ago, at the time of King Edward I. It has been known, sometimes for its fine cheeses, wool and lace, and driven thousands of geese the town of Lincolnshire. Today the Goose Fair has become one of the largest shows of its kind in the world, with over half a million people visit each year, more than half enjoying rides and games, and hundreds of jobs for purchasing food, gifts and souvenirs.

In short, is rich in Nottingham culture and entertainment, and there are a good thing for all tastes and interests.
