Is it safe to mount a 2.5 H.P. (30 lbs outboard motor)? to a sportspal double end canoe?
canoe is 15′ 10″ and i will be using it mostly in lakes and a few rivers in central texas. just want to make sure it’s safe. to mount a 2.5 H.P. (30 lbs outboard motor)? to a castle craft sportspal double end canoe? Are the side mounts capable of supporting it? and are all side mounts the same? trolling/outboard?
Yes, it’ll support your engine… Check with manufactuer about load limit’s ie., passangers and gear. Engine mount attaches to the gunwales (top edge sides) of your canoe. Ya’, can get the mount at most sporting good outlets that supports canoes. I know Cabela’s has them, they’re a little costly, ballparkin’ them they be around a 100 bucks. Ya’ might also want ta’ check on a stabilizer, (arm that also attaches to gunwale towards the bow that has small pontoon (s) on it) it’s not necessary but gives one a little more stability. Best thing ta’ do is shop around for best prices on the internet. We have an 11 1/2′ inflatable raft that has mounts on the stern (rear of vessel) for an electric troller that we use ta’ get into smaller ponds when the 14′ Jon boat won’t make it.
