Since the discovery of Panama and the Pearl Islands in 1513 by Balboa near Balboa, Panama is rich in history with many still not been explored inhabited islands by indigenous people. Many live in the deep forest and still retain their age old culture and customs touched by the modern world. Some of these communities are the Embera Darien and Rio Chagres National Park, Ngobe – Bugle of Chiriqui, Veraguas and Bocas and San Blas Kuna. It's fascinating to learn about their customs and traditions that a tourist not to be missed.
Just 40 minutes drive from Panama City is the Chagres River National Park, which contains some of the most pristine tropical rainforests the world. One has to travel by canoe up the Chagres River to meet the Embera community. Guided tours for tourists interested in visiting and learn about their traditions and culture. They may be a whole day with the community. The villages are surrounded by a thick, lush vegetation and clear water. The weather here is typical tropical climate, warm and humid.
People in town are traditionally dressed in loincloths with colored women in skirts and jewelry made from coins and other metals in the top. They have their bodies painted with vegetable dye called Jagua. They live in thatched huts on stilts. The main occupation of these communities is agriculture, fisheries, handicrafts and tourism. People of the straw the women make beautiful bowls and plates available from local trees and vegetable dye ink for them colorful look. The forest is home to a variety of herbs and medicinal plants unique to the community is prepared medicine from healing wounds, diseases skin to treat native equivalent of Viagra. Tourists are also treated with special food made from fresh fish and fried bananas, the fruit of a native plant. The Visitors were also entertained with traditional dance and music of the Embera community at the end of the tour.
Contadora Island is part of the archipelago of the Pearl Islands with more than 200 islands and is only 15 minutes flight from Panama City. These islands are famous for pearls Spanish pirates looted and took them to Spain centuries ago. Punta Galeon and Contadora Island Beach Resort are two large hotels on the island of Contadora.
