Tucked away in the middle of the hike and bike trails that lead through Zilker Park in Austin is a jewel: Austin Science and Nature Center. The nature center offers many educational and interesting features, including interactive displays, hands-on exhibits, trails of science with the information recorded in each stop, and a collection of live wildlife.

The center also is home to Discovery Labs, including seven mini-labs that explore the study of mammalogy, ornithology, herpetology, and geology, and there are collections of butterflies, bats and bones, along with the laboratories and other displays. There is also an authentic Texas cave to explore, and eco-detective kits for children and young adults to study and draw conclusions based on evidence that is obtained while on the tracks in relation to science and ecology in and around the center, enhancing learning capabilities of the participants and critical thinking processes while having fun.

There is also a small exhibition wonders with various insects, reptiles, insects and other small animals, and characteristics of live wildlife exhibition of over fifty different kinds of wildlife native to central Texas, including a large collection of owls, hawks, eagles, fox, wolf, crocodile, and many other species, some with their young.

In the summer, there are many different fields that remain in the center for children with emphasis on marine life, biology and other scientific disciplines, and a breakfast with the number of birds for younger children too. Currently, an interactive exhibition called Naturalist Workshop and Trade against children and young adults can explore, see, experience and trade among the different types of rocks, bones, shells, fossils, and other interesting flora and fauna meet, including microscopes and reference materials for use, and staff assistance and follow them while I study.

A feature Interestingly it was recently added to the center is the dino-pit where a dinosaur simulation environment has been created for the study of fossils and other prehistoric finds, as old bones, fossilized leaves and the like. Another very educational facility in the complex is the Beverly Sheffield Education Center is located at the old bathhouse Barton Springs Pool, the name of one of the first responders Barton Springs, which became the first director of the Austin Parks and Wildlife Department years later. Mr. Sheffield was active in the center, even after retiring from the position of the city, and was celebrated for his many years of service and contributions outstanding science and Nature Center and Zilker Park area as well.

One of the most educational and interactive at the Center for the Study of Barton Springs ecological system, along with the Edwards Aquifer and many of its distinctive characteristics, and exposure is called Splash in the Edwards Aquifer. This exhibition also includes the study of conservation and interactive exhibits include real-life phenomena, living specimens, and working models for kids can explore ways to contribute to the environment that relates to your community and your life.
