It can be a rewarding adventure to build your own boat or it could be an absolute nightmare of a company.
When you're trying to decide whether should proceed with the project or, perhaps having made that decision, which is trying to decide what type of boat to build, the first thing to do is start at the end. Advice Weird I know, but the first thing to consider is what do you do when you are finished building your own boat.
Are you building a boat just to satisfy a desire to be engaged in a woodworking project, or have a definite end in mind?
Thinking about going fishing or cruising or sailing, or simply browsing in the local river. Maybe you're thinking of wake boarding or water skiing?
The final use of the ship, the number of People who want to be able to carry passengers, the means of propulsion, paddles, sail or motor, the type of water in which you want to use the boat are very important things to consider.
