I just started boy scouts and i’m going to summer camp. which merit badge: indian lore or wood carving?

Im allowed to do 2 merit badges, and i’m taking the trail to first class program. My first merit badge choice is canoeing .

If each class is being offered as a regular session, I would recommend Indian Lore. Typically the “handicraft” type merit badges such as Wood Carving, Leatherwork, and Basketry are all offered in the same location and can often be completed during free time after lunch.

Why use up one of only two merit badge sessions for a merit badge you can just swing by and finish in a couple afternoons?

The summer camp you are attending may not work this way, but I’ve been to at least ten different camps over the years and they’ve always offered handicraft merit badges outside of the normal sessions.
