There are many different types of sailboats, ranging from small boats from one person to seagoing vessels which can carry hundreds of sailors. Sailboats can be classified mainly by the sail configuration and hull type.
Sloop – The announcement is the most common sail configuration, consisting of a mainsail and foresail. There are several variations on the basic sloop design, like adding more of a ratchet, or the fractional rig. A fractional sloop is one platform where the ratchet does not extend all the way to the top of the mast, this can give the best performance boat in certain conditions.
Lute – This design has a mast, like the sloop, unlike the boat, do not carry a headsail. The lute is also characterized by its mast is positioned well to the bow of the boat.
Ketch – A two-masted sailboat mast Â-main and a mizzen mast. A sailboat can also use the front of main mast jibs.
Schooner – A schooner is a boat with two or more masts, and the second mast is at least as high as the mast first. This differentiates a schooner, a sailboat, as mizzen mast on a sailboat is shorter than the mainmast.
Besides the sailing type, sail boats can be classified according to type of helmet. Most sailboats are mono or single hull vessels, but some are multiple design hull or hulls of the catamaran.
A boat hull monkey uses a keel or centerboard for stability (pressure against the wind in the sails), but a multi-hull boat uses its width to create stability. Multi-hull boats are often faster than mono-hull boats. Of course, a mono-hull boat has more interior space of a multi-hull boat the same size.
