Canoeing Northwest Florida

There are picnic areas, swimming Squitty Bay Provincial Park, 9 miles south of the ferry dock, where the water is warm and green in the summer, and many other secluded beaches of the island and its 8 bays. In calm water, you can paddle Jedidiah to the island, now a marine park in the province, and has white sand beaches. This is only accessible by boat and takes about 30 minutes by boat when the waters are good.
Visitors and residents come here for mountain biking, among other reasons. There are no paved roads, so you realize that you need some good equipment. You not totally devoid of vehicles if you have an emergency or other reason for needing one. There is a taxi service here.
Fishing – did I mention you can fish for salmon, cod and redfish here, digging clams, or just watch the marine life on your dive gear?
There are several hotels, some of B & B and a desert retreat for rent, and camps. Power generators are turned off at night, which means you'll be glad your candles, kerosene lamps and flashlight batteries. Just remember that you are dealing with solar energy, home or indoor showers and toilets that are varied in their typical accommodation.
Where is this place and how to get there? It is 50 miles northwest of Vancouver in the Strait of Georgia. The island is about 12 miles long and 3 miles wide, compared to Manhattan so if you need a visual comparison of size. Now think of all the people living in Manhattan and 350 living in Lasqueti, and you'll realize why the comparison to Manhattan stops there. Take the passenger ferry from French Creek Harbor on Vancouver Island, in False Bay on Lasqueti Island. This will take about 50 minutes in calm water. You'll leave your car behind at the marina where you will find pay parking. With a boarding pass, you still have to go on board 15 minutes before departure. There are details of what can and can not carry on board, like any household hardware – Machines, bicycles etc. are 2.50. However, if you bring your own kayak, ferry company believes that the hand luggage, so voila, you're ready to enjoy the waters off the coast.
