What is the best bait to use small mouth in the south fork of the Shenandoah?

Tommorroe Im going there for a night canoe trip, if you know something about smallmouths fishing the Shenandoah or the day or night plz tell. THANKS! Tim first in my river, and smallie.

Well you can try these 3 things, one small spinnerbait with a blade of willow leaf / gold leaf would skirt in dark color of a lobster Crankbait select the depth of immersion suitable for river and maybe even some soft plastics like a plastic lizard, worm or tube template, natural color, or brown or black I also hear a staff of good works for them in natural colors Live bait is a good choice as well, live lobsters, live minnows, salamanders, or even sometimes Nightcrawlers
