Although not as widespread as is the cousin of the largemouth bass fishing is the most popular sports in North America, there is, in my opinion, more intriguing small mouth, and that is the fight. Grand Traverse Bay offers endless fishing opportunities and limitless activities for the whole family, including canoeing, Hiking, camping, and sailing, just to name a few. Fish are relatively easy to find and capture of Grand Traverse Bay, and the times I've been there Boat traffic has been very limited, which I found to be a pleasant surprise. With that being said, Grand Traverse Bay has my vote as the best place to go.

Advice for finding and catching fish.

  • Look for areas of transition. Areas where there is a change of gravel bars and rock to the sand.
  • Wikipedia isolated weed beds or rocks on 3.12 feet of water.
  • Look for breaks. Areas where the water depth drops of 8-12 feet down 20 to 30 feet or more.
  • Cast your attraction to the edges of the transition areas, grass beds, and breaks.
  • Use decoys that imitate crayfish or small fish.

Finding and catching fish in the Grand Traverse Bay is not difficult. Follow these five simple tips and you might possibly catch that trophy smallmouth you've been looking for.
