Vermont Academy (aka VA) is a mixed boarding / day school and college preparatory school for grades nine to twelve years and also offers the acceptance of students pursuing post-graduate years. Founded in 1876, is located in Saxtons River, Vermont. The school is mixed, and college-preparatory, with a 515-acre campus. There are 228 students from 30 states and 12 countries (46 international students – 20%).
History

In 1934 the school at the brink of bankruptcy, Dartmouth College President Ernest Martin Hopkins recommends a fellow Dartmouth graduate for the post of director of the Academy of Vermont. Laurence G. Leavitt was director for 25 years, during which time enrollment doubled, debt retired school and made many improvements to the school campus.

A gymnasium and changing facilities at the refurbished gymnasium was built in 2008. From an observatory with a high powered telescope built in 2008. There are separate bedrooms for children and girls. There is room for 20 girls and 111 boys. There is a snow park on campus in winter for skiing, snowboarding, and the jump was built in 2008.
