Camping outside the Washington DC Metropolitan Area?

I'm looking for an exciting, gay-friendly camping within two hours drive from the metropolitan area DC. A group of kids and I really want to go, but we're not sure the best place would be going. We are planning to stay in tents, and would love Additional services such as a lake for swimming, kayaking, and / or canoe, toilets and showers, etc.

I can not speak to the gay-friendly aspect of camping elsewhere instead of saying most of the campers tend to be very well received. I do not know of any anti-gay sites. Shenandoah National Park is nice. N lake but a river. Many of the trails and beautiful scenery. Rocky Gap State Park in Flintstone, MD is good too. It has a nice big lake, trails, a resort (where you can hire bicycles, get a good meal, spa, etc), lots of places to camp. Showers are available. Cunningham Falls in Thurmont, MD is one with nice places to camping, lake, fall fun to play, rock climbing, a lot of trails. Have fun!
