Edisto Island is located about 50 miles from Charleston, SC, and is separated from the mainland by the Edisto River. The island is easily accessible via a bridge linking the mainland. The main attractions of the island are Edisto Beach, Edisto Beach State Park, North and South Edisto River Edisto River.

The island is famous for pristine natural environment, and many laws have been established to prevent the nightmare from becoming a developer, like many other coastal areas along the coast South Atlantic. So Edisto Island is a refreshing change of pace and scenery.

It is also free from many of the vices of the tourist traps like South Beach Miami, and as such is a family destination in the region easier. Although adolescents and young adults can not find enough action to your liking, young children and mature adults will love.

Most people who visit the island head to the southeastern most tip, where is the community of Edisto Beach. Here there are plenty of accommodation located within walking distance from the coast. There are several restaurants and a few quiet drink establishments that reflect the relaxed atmosphere.

Watersports are the main attraction here, swimming, kite surfing, windsurfing, fishing, sailing and boating are very popular. Many streams and creeks penetrate the coast of the island and a paradise for lovers of fishing, crabs, shrimp, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and canoeing. Edisto River itself is famous for their fish, and the emblematic tree houses overlook it.

Edisto Beach State Park is a great destination for a day trip, although many choose to spend the night here, or even stay longer. Accommodation is limited to the cabin rental and camping for both tents and vehicles recreation. However, the pristine beach is even farther south, and more activities have been taken as hiking, biking, interpretive and much more. During the summer months there are special programs loggerhead display where visitors can watch sea turtles come out, laying their eggs, and back to sea. Later, people can see the pups to get rid of the sand and begin the dangerous journey along the beach into the ocean and beyond.

All In all, Edisto Island has something for all ages and all tastes, with the exception of those who want loud music, noise, play and squalor. One more note for those visiting or staying in Edisto Beach State Park, there is strictly no alcohol allowed. Pets not allowed in or around the cabins, although they are allowed, if on a leash in the campground, trails and beach.
