1) Purchasing: Some of the best malls will be in the Azalea Square, which is near Highway 17 (also called North Main Street). This outdoor mall is like Summerville version of the Towne Center of Mt. 2) Visit the center of Summerville: Summerville has a center of the city very charming shops and restaurants. This section has a very different feeling from the Azalea Square Shopping Center is new (and rather large). The middle section of Summerville has more locally owned shops and restaurants. You can even go "antiques" (looking at the antique shops) in downtown Summerville.
3) Go to a movie: Regal cinema in Azalea Plaza has 16 individual stage theaters, so you'll find a good mix of film screenings throughout the day or night.
4) Summerville Farmers Market: This market is open only to farmers in early spring to autumn. Depends, leaving every Saturday morning, however. You can get fresh local produce, baked goods, flowers and other specialties. It is located in the West Doty between Cedar Street and Main Street.
5) Spend time outdoors: Charleston is one of the best systems of county parks in South Carolina. The two options are closer to Summerville Cau Cau Center and Wannamaker. It is 30 to 40 minutes drive to Cau Cau Nature and History Interpretation Center in Ravenel. This nature center that used to be home to rice plantations, but is now part of the Charleston County Park and is open to the public. There are over 6 miles of walking trails, including elevated walkways. You can see wildlife, visit the 18-century rice fields, or go canoeing. And if you do not want to drive all the way to Cau Cau, you can go to just 10 minutes north Wannamaker Charleston County Park, featuring 2 playgrounds, indoor golf, a dog park, picnic sites, and over a thousand acres of preserved forests and wetlands. Admission to both parks is a dollar per person, so these options are on the cheapest entertainment you can find.
6) Flowertown Festival: Every year in April, Summerville Flowertown Festival hosts. This is the largest arts and crafts festival in the state. The festival takes its name from the city center many azaleas, which are always in full bloom during the festival weekend.
7) Francis Beidler Forest: This is owned by the National Audubon Society, was created to preserve an old growth swamp forests. You'll find bald cypress that are about a thousand years! There are plenty of hiking trails and guided tours and canoe. The park is over 15,000 hectares and is a 30 minutes drive from Summerville.
