Have you ever heard of hitting a cut together? The first time I heard this I was a little surprised. I was selling a product called Miracle Glue at fairs. There were people who tells outrageous stories possible about the origins of cyanoacrylates (glue) – Miracle Cola is in the same category. The predominant story was that glue had been invented in the Vietnam era for soldiers. Bands is more effective in sealing a cut or wound closure. I have researched this pretty thoroughly and found that although these types of glues were used in Vietnam and later for suturing wounds, "super glue" was "discovered" much before.
Cyanoacrylates ran into a couple of gentleman from Eastman Kodak in the 1940s, then again in the 50s. These gentlemen were experiencing in the cyanoacrylate areas of guns and was one of his mistakes. The cyanoacrylates first formed were ethyl and methyl. In the 1970s, n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate then 2-octyl cyanoacrylate have been developed, the latter being approved by FDA and marketed as such and Traumaseal Dermabond. The butyl and octyl be less irritating to the skin. The sooner do the job but not so comfortably. I've had many people tell me they have used all types of cyanoacrylates in this way.
Now when my family is loaded with doctors, I am not one. Although I can not advise one to use glue for these things, I can tell some interesting stories that have been sent me. Here is one of 3-4 years ago:
Gentlemen:
I bought a small bottle of your miracle glue in a gun show in Portland in June thought the show would be a good thing to have when I was hunting and fishing for those repairs moment that always seems to arise. Well, that ends his little glue saved my trip. I would say that life, but that would be a little too dramatic. I was on a solo flight in the trip Forest canoe tute of Northern Ontario, northern Minnesota Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I have said many times that I'm crazy for flying hundreds of miles alone and away from nowhere and not the body, but sometimes I feel like being alone with nature to get my world back in perspective. I grew up in those places so I feel completely sure of my capabilities and also the fishing is great and easily frightened bears.
I have four days off on a journey of 10 days and the spin casting a reed bed for trophy Northerns [Northern Pike]. My attraction is hit like a freight train and eventually fight the monster in my canoe. I'm trying to get a quick snapshot arms length to record the time and release the trophy when the fish pulls the hand that is holding him by the gills and starts to go crazy at the bottom of the canoe.
Things happen very quickly. I pull up the pliers and get the lure out and as I am trying to solve the fish to release it'll do me grabs and grabs me instead of the hand. I manage to keep the gills and turn my hand (not fun, but fortunately very easy or wearing heavy leather gloves), but now the fish are all caught in my heavy line and all I want is this idiot of my canoe. I pull my fillet knife and go cut the back of the line to throw away.
Just as I'm going to cut the line of the fish is shaken out of my arrival on hand in his other hand to force the steak knife through my left thigh and I can say that I been pretty badly cut right away. Screw the fish, I bang on the head with the handle of the paddle boat and return to camp. (I ate my fill and left its enormous head of a broken branch of a pine tree.)
When I arrive I take a peak and there is a 7 nice long slice in the bottom right upper thigh. Fortunately, I keep my knife sharp fillet knife that is a straight cut. I'm enjoying my week consumption of whiskey stock, boiling point fishing line and making work hand sewing in my leg. I remember reading something about the medical use of the tail and figure it's worth a try before suture auto hack job.
I bought Miracle tail bag, clean the wound area, dab it dry as I can and then slowly the tail of the wound closed using some clamps I use to the removal of hooks. It worked very well and held the wound together. I wiped some more and finished until the bleeding stopped. I waited and then added a hallmark of fine line when done for extra hold. I then covered with gauze and kept it covered the rest of the trip. The wound did not get very infected and then of the tail fell off I just put some antiseptic cream on it for several days until he left.
Great job with the glue, do not hesitate to send me an little more. Regards,
Jeff J. "
Cyanoacrylate can be used for paper cuts, immediately closing the wound. I've also had several people I say they have used successfully when they get very dry skin and skin at the ends of the split of his fingers. Put a drop in and by the time it disappears after a couple of days, the division has sealed.
